Mrs.Karen's Answer
Child Support is modifiable. If your financial situation has changed since the entry of your child support order you can file for a motion to modify the child support order. You do not need an attorney to file a motion, you can file a motion yourself. Usually child support motions are filed through Family Court, however each state is different so my advise to you is to contact your local child support office and ask where you can file your motion for reduction. A few weeks after filing you will be given a court date.
As long as you can provide proof in court that there has been a substantial change of circumstances the hearing officer or Judge will recalculate your support obligation. You will need to provide a copy of your W2 forms to prove that your income has changed, a Doctor's note if you are claiming to be disabled due to a medical condition or letters from unemployement, social security or disability if it applies to you.. Just be prepared to provide proof of anything you say in court. Your support can also be lowered if there has been an addition to your family but not if you have purchased a new home or car.
